If you have limited income and resources, Medi-Cal, California’s Medicaid program, allows you to gain access to the care you need at little or no cost. The Medi-Cal program pays for medical, behavioral health, and vision benefits, as well as long-term care and other supportive services for low-income individuals and families.

If you, your children or your entire family are enrolled in Medi-Cal, the next challenge is finding a doctor who’s right for you. Virtually all Medi-Cal plans will be HMOs (Health Maintenance Organizations) where you will have to select a primary care physician (PCP). Your PCP will be your initial contact point for referrals to other health care services.
